Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse.

Last week, Missguided decided to release a £1 bikini set. No, you’re not reading that wrong. £1. 1 POUND! *major facepalm*

We already knew Missguided was bad, but this is taking it to another level. A classic example of fast fashion, this £1 bikini sets us up to value clothing at unsustainably low prices.

We all know that we’re now in a state of climate emergency, with just a few years to turn things around and save our planet. Yet some brands seem to be unaware of (or want to ignore) the crisis.

This is a prime example of fast fashion, which can be defined as cheap, trendy clothing that samples ideas from the catwalk or celebrity culture, and turns them into garments in high street stores at breakneck speed.

Fast fashion is harmful. Garment makers feel the effects, facing unfair and dangerous working conditions. The environment and animals are also suffering from the unethical and unsustainable production of fast fashion, choking on tonnes of discarded clothing, microfibres, and toxic chemicals.
