The Good On You Team Shares How They’re Shopping More Sustainably This October

This is a sponsored article featuring brands that have been independently assessed by our rigorous ratings system. We’re proud to only collaborate with “Good” and “Great” rated brands. Learn more.

In this month’s team picks, three Good On You staffers share their selections from more sustainable brands and the intention behind their investments.

Purpose before purchase: How intention can foster more mindful consumption

Every conscious shopper shares the desire to buy from brands that are taking measures to reduce their impact, but all of our needs are different: some might be looking for items for a new job, while others might be replacing worn-out favourites in their wardrobe or building up a capsule collection. Either way, being clear about your purpose for shopping can help foster a more responsible attitude to consumption, and here, we’re speaking to three Good On You staffers about how they’re shopping mindfully to fit their lifestyles and needs—and the more sustainable brands that they’re investing in.

Why you can trust our recommendations

At Good On You, we provide trustworthy recommendations that align with your values and needs. Our mission is to simplify informed choices while embracing the “buy less, buy better” motto.

To ensure credibility, we aggregate comprehensive, transparent information on fashion and beauty sustainability—assessing brands using our leading methodology, developed by diverse experts. Our ratings directory of over 6,000 fashion brands and hundreds of beauty brands employs a simple five-point scale, curating a list of “Good” or “Great” brands making significant contributions to sustainable fashion and beauty.

Our editorial team, driven by expertise and passion, carefully reviews and approves each recommendation, upholding high standards of quality, longevity, and trend-transcendence.

While we recognise the value of reusing, mending, and second-hand shopping, our expert ratings system guides you toward new brands aligned with your values and sustainability goals.

Luka Host, affiliate coordinator

“I tend to shop when I need, rather than when I want. This means that I check mostly seasonally if there is anything missing in my closet, or any clothing that needs updating. Since winter is coming, there are some items that I would love to get my hands on to keep me warm and dry during the cold months. I prefer to go for practical and simple pieces. They are easier to mix and match with clothing I have, and don’t go out of style so I can match them with new clothing I may be getting in the future”

Amy Miles, managing editor

“I’m currently looking for some versatile items for the changing weather. When I invest in new clothes, I look within a specific colour palette and prioritise classic designs to ensure they’ll work with the things I already own. Beiges, browns and blacks are my go-to, and I can already see how these picks, ideal for London’s cooling temperatures, will go the distance in my wardrobe.”

“Working remotely, I’m often in virtual meetings with partners and prospects—showing up on camera from the waist up, conveying trust and confidence and building lasting relationships.

The top half of my outfit plays a key role in this, which is why I love experimenting with colours and textures. I know my style and I shop according to that, rather than following trends. Think chunky cotton sweaters in bright shades, or a knitted vest I can layer. I love to add small and playful details to reflect my personality, like Fanfare’s bow tee or Thinking MU’s top that I’ll be able to wear a bunch of different ways. Add a pair of statement earrings and I’m ready for my Zoom calls.”
