If you’re vegan or prefer to avoid animal products, read on to discover seven of the highest rated brands that are making vegan skincare, makeup, and body products.
The state of vegan beauty
When Good On You surveyed 239 large and small beauty brands in 2024 we found that, despite the discussion around vegan cosmetics getting ever louder, there’s still only a fraction of brands that have actually committed to eliminating animal-derived ingredients entirely from their product ranges. 9%, to be precise, are certified as vegan by the likes of PETA, Vegan Society, or Vegetarian Society. Another 9% state they’re vegan but don’t have a certification to back that up.
Meanwhile, 40% of brands clearly disclose using animal-derived ingredients, and even more aren’t publishing enough information about their ingredients. Beeswax, keratin, lanolin, and shellac are some of the most common animal-derived ingredients you’ll find in formulas. And while it’s true that more vegan brands are emerging, it’s still a challenge to find them. To that end, we’ve rounded up the highest rated beauty brands in our database that are also vegan.
Many other highly rated beauty brands such as Lush, Tata Harper, and Carol’s Daughter, also make vegan products but are not entirely vegan across their range, so while we haven’t included them in this round-up, it’s worth checking out their offerings to see what is available and fits your values.
