Circ to Build $500 Million Cotton, Polyester Recycling Plant in France (Reuters)
With support from the French government and the European Union, Circ will build a new textile recycling plant in the country’s northeast region, with a scheduled opening in 2028. Reuters reports that it’ll be the first of its kind to recycle cotton and polyester on an industrial scale, processing 70,000 metric tons per year.
Far From Home: Uyghur Workers in Global Factories Supplying Global Brands (New York Times)
In a joint investigation based on publicly available information, The New York Times, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism and Der Spiegel have found that in China, state-led programs to move Uyghur workers out of Xinjiang—to work in factories around the country—are more extensive than previously known. These labour transfer programs mean that, despite the US and European Union adopting laws to prevent imports of products from Xinjiang that might’ve been manufactured using Uyghur forced labour, major brands, including Crocs, could still be funding the issue in their supply chains.
Japanese Football Boot Makers Jump Out of Kangaroo Leather (Financial Times)
Following activist pressure, Japanese brands Asics and Mizuno have committed to phasing out the use of kangaroo leather in their football boots. Asics told the Financial Times it would do so by the end of 2025, while Mizuno did not disclose a timeline.

L’Oréal Launches €100 Million Sustainable Innovation Accelerator (ESG Today)
Over the next five years, L’Oréal will fund a €100m accelerator for small businesses with ready-to-pilot ideas that could create a more sustainable beauty industry. Ezgi Barcenas, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal, told ESG Today: “We look forward to partnering with startups and SMEs on low-carbon solutions, alternative ingredients and packaging materials, low-impact processes, and resilience and adaptation efforts.”

For the very first time, “Good” brand Purusha People is branching out from using TENCEL and into organic cotton for its underwear. What’s more, the brand has sourced bio-based spandex for stretch, which is made from 30% non-GMO corn, as well as using non-toxic, metal-free dyes, and water-based ink.
The ANJELMS Project Partners With Urvara for Enhanced Supply Chain Transparency
Australia-based The ANJELMS Project (“Great”) has introduced a program to give customers greater visibility of its garments’ supply chains. Using a QR code, shoppers can see details like the number of countries a garment has passed through, the energy sources used in manufacturing, and total distance travelled.
’Great’ No Nasties Celebrates More Than 200,000 Trees Planted
Indian label No Nasties plants three trees for every garment purchased, and it has reached a milestone of surpassing 200,000 planted in regions from India to Indonesia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya, and Haiti. At the time of writing, the number was at 238,482 and growing.
For Facts’ Sake: ARMEDANGELS and Wikipedia Team Up
ARMEDANGELS (“Great”) has partnered with Wikimedia Foundation (the non-profit arm of Wikipedia) to create a collection of recycled-cotton garments paying tribute to the world’s favourite online encyclopedia. A portion of the sales will support Wikipedia. On top of that, ARMEDANGELS has just opened its very first boutique in its homtown of Cologne, Germany.

Rifò Opens Milan Boutique With Recycling Scheme
The third store opening announcement in our list this month comes from Rifò (“Great”), which has launched a space in Milan complete with a recycling scheme where customers can drop off wool, cashmere, or cotton-based jeans for reuse or recycling.
