Trend-driven Edikted produces hundreds of hot-off-the-press womenswear styles reminiscent of Y2K. So how ethical is Edikted? We rate the brand “We Avoid” for its lack of transparency. This article is based on the Edikted rating published in April 2023 and may not reflect claims the brand has made since then. Our ratings analysts are constantly rerating the thousands of brands you can check on our directory.

Another trendy, low effort TikTok brand

Based in the US, Edikted is a Gen Z-oriented online fashion brand, heavily influenced by pop culture, technology, and style. While the brand seems to focus on the latest styles and trends and is hugely popular on TikTok, it has stayed far away from making any inroads when it comes to sustainability or ensuring worker’s rights. Let’s take a look and answer the question: how ethical is Edikted?

Environmental impact

Our planet rating evaluates brands based on the environmental policies in their supply chains, from carbon emissions and wastewater to business models and product circularity. Unsurprisingly, Edikted gets our lowest score of “Very Poor” for the environment. This is mainly owing to their lack of transparency and unsustainable fast fashion business model with quickly changing trends and regular new styles.

Other factors influencing this score include the use of few lower-impact materials, and the fact that there’s no evidence the brand is taking meaningful action to reduce or eliminate hazardous chemicals in manufacturing or to reduce its climate impacts. Editked has a long way to go to improve its score here.

Labour conditions

Workers’ rights are central to our people rating, which assess brands’ policies and practices on everything from child labour to living wages and gender equality. Unfortunately, Edikted also rates “Very Poor” here.

There’s no evidence the brand has a Code of Conduct, nor that it supports diversity and inclusion in its supply chain. While it partly traces its final production stage, the rest of its supply chain is left out, and worst of all, it doesn’t ensure workers in its supply chain are paid living wages. This is crucial for a more ethical fashion industry, as it ensures workers earn enough money to support themselves and their families to a decent standard of living—something every person deserves.

Animal welfare

Brands’ animal welfare policies and, where applicable, how well they trace their animal-derived products are the focus of our animals rating.

Not appearing to use any animal-derived products in its pieces, though not explicitly stating it is a vegan brand, Edikted rates “Good” for animals.

Overall rating: ‘We Avoid’

Overall, the brand is rated “We Avoid”, our lowest possible score. As a shopper, you have the right to know how Edikted’s production practices impact the world and its inhabitants.

Edikted needs to overhaul its practices around workers rights and environmental issues if it hopes to become a more ethical and sustainable brand. Using more lower-impact materials in its clothes, producing less styles overall, and ensuring payment of a living wage for its workers would be a good start.
