7 Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Flip Flops for the Summer

Sun’s out tootsies out. If you find yourself where the weather is warm and in need of shoes that are easy to slip on and off, we’ve rounded up 7 sustainable flip flops—or “thongs” in Australia, I know, I know—to take you from the beach to the poolside and back again.

What’s so bad about regular dollar store or chain store flip flops, you ask? Well, aside from most places you stumble into on the high street likely not paying a living wage or being very transparent about their production practices, did you know that cheap flip flops are usually made with synthetic, chemical-based rubbers like neoprene? And natural rubber production isn’t perfect either, so we generally recommend going for certified sustainable or recycled rubber or other sustainable material options for your footwear and accessories.

Below, you’ll find recycled rubber thongs from Etiko (Australia) and Ecoalf (Spain), rope sandals from Nomadic State of Mind (US), and more. Read on to discover the best sustainable flip flops out.
