As governments around the world table policies for making the fashion industry more responsible, Japan’s Sustainable Fashion Alliance has published a policy proposal for promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. Key recommendations include facilitating the processing of 50,000 tons of discarded clothing through fibre-to-fibre recycling, disclosures on CO2 reduction efforts at commercial facilities, and updating the region’s existing Eco Design Guidelines.

Reuters’ exclusive report on Walmart’s paused garment orders reveals the impact of US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 35% import tariffs on Bangladesh. Factory owners told Reuters that they all expected orders to fall if the tariffs were put into effect.

Manufacturing Workers Increasingly at Risk of Harm Caused by Climate Change, Report Finds (Business & Human Rights Human Resource Centre)

Business & Human Rights Human Resource Centre shares details of a report from global safety charity Lloyd’s Register Foundation on the impact of climate change on worker safety. The report found that garment and textiles workers are particularly at risk of harm “from increased machinery and factory wear and tear as a result of higher temperatures and humidity.”

With the news that viral beauty brand Ami Colé is shuttering, Tiffany Dodson Davis writes in Harper’s Bazaar about the challenges faced by Black-owned brands in the beauty industry amidst fluctuating tariffs, businesses pulling back on inclusivity, and diversity being seen as a “trend”. “The end of Ami Colé after the brand’s meteoric rise underlines the importance of championing brands working to level the playing field for beauty equity right now,” Davis says, noting that adding items from Black-owned beauty brands to your regular rotation is one of the small steps that can be taken to make progress.

Industry Veteran Safia Minney to Chair Regenerative Fashion and Textile Futures Day

Safia Minney, founder of Fashion Declares, People Tree, Real Sustainability, and “Great”-rated brand Indilisi, will chair a day exploring regenerative fashion, craft, and ethical textiles as part of London Textile Month 2025. 15 industry experts including the likes of Emma Håkansson and Polly Leonard will speak on key issues throughout the day. Tickets are still available for the event, which takes place on September 18th.

‘Good’ Brand Hyer Goods Spotlighted in Small Business Series

Hyer Goods, loved for its leather recycling, has been spotlighted in The Guardian’s ‘The New Face of Small Business’ series, which “looks at the route to success from outside of the white, male-dominated world of CEOs.” The brand’s founder, Dana Cohen, described her process of recycling leather scraps and the challenges of running her business amidst the current geopolitical landscape. “My goal was never to be a behemoth organisation… I just want to have a nice, small business for people who care,” she said.
