Vegan fashion and beauty in 2026

Curating a list of vegan fashion and beauty brands in 2026 shows just how much progress has been made in the animal justice space, as many brands nowadays are avoiding animal materials as a matter of course. Today, brands aren’t using animal-derived materials and ingredients because they don’t need to: there are enough suitable alternatives and they’re increasingly well known. There is no doubt that much still needs to be done to improve animal welfare, but notable strides have been made recently.

Take the recent fur bans, for example: over the last year, major players in the fashion industry have prohibited the cruel use of fur. This includes New York Fashion Week, Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines, and Rick Owens. Poland, the world’s second-largest fur producer after China, has also set in motion an impending ban on fur farming. On top of that, recent research by Collective Fashion Justice shows that high-end customers increasingly feel that the use of wild animal skins and fur makes fashion brands less luxurious.

How we determine the best, more sustainable vegan brands

We’ve curated the best vegan fashion and beauty brands by checking their impact across our three ratings pillars: people, the planet, and animals. For animals, the brand must, of course, be certified as vegan, and, in the case of beauty brands, should also be cruelty-free, meaning it does not test on animals.

The European Commission has banned animal testing for cosmetics, but testing is still allowed for some chemicals (as a last resort if no alternatives are available) under the REACH regulation. In June 2026, the Commission published a roadmap to ending animal testing for chemical safety assessments, too, which is good news.

In addition to animal welfare, Good On You expects brands to also be performing well in both transparency and impact reduction across people and the planet, because taking action in only one area while ignoring other vital aspects of sustainability does not make for a more responsible business. For instance, the brand should trace at least some of its supply chain; it should be opting for lower impact materials instead of fossil-fuel-derived synthetics (which can often be used to substitute leather); ideally it ensures living wages are paid throughout the entire supply chain; and it should be taking steps to reduce waste in packaging and product design.

These are just a few of the criteria our independent ratings analysts look for, and you can find more details in our How We Rate resource.
