The role
Reports to: Head of Tech
Hours: Flexible up to Full time
Location: Remote
We’re looking for a Senior back end developer to build products that make a difference in a fast paced startup with a social impact mission.
Working closely with the Head of Tech in a collaborative team of engineers and product designers, you will contribute to all technical aspects of Good On You’s strategy, product development and system operation.
You’ll play a major part in developing:
- efficient and robust systems that aggregate and process data from multiple sources to create our world leading sustainability brand ratings
- polished user-facing tools to empower shoppers to make better choices, and brands to become more sustainable.

Technical requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant portion in senior engineering positions, delivering production-ready code using different tech stacks.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Laravel and SQL (specifically with PostGREs and MySQL), showcasing the ability to develop robust and scalable code and systems while adhering to SOLID principles.
- Exposure to MongoDB, complementing a well-rounded skill set in database technologies.
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a solid understanding of DevOps processes, emphasising the ability to effectively leverage cloud services and implement efficient development and deployment practices.
Other qualities we value
- Wide BE experience
- PostGREs, MySQL or similar RDBMS
- Understanding of RESTful APIs design and implementation
- While the core focus for this role is Laravel, Node.js is a big plus
- Experience writing Python commands for automation
- Exposure to the Parse framework
- Proficiency in developing and enhancing code for high-traffic applications, demonstrating a track record of impactful contributions.
- FE experience
- FE development experience using React
Remote work
You can ‘work from anywhere’ provided you have access to what you need to do the job. You will also need to be available for a certain amount of meetings with your team. Most team members are located in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne) and Europe including the UK.
